A Brief History of Dundonald

A few important points during the history of Dundonald:

  • Dundonald Castle was built in the 14th century by king Robert II.
  • Old Auchans Castle was built in the late 16th century and converted in the 17th
  • Dundonald's economy was built on weaving and coal-mining.
  • Dundonald Camp is based on now-modernised military housing which formed part of a military camp built just before the Second World War and associated with nearby RAF Dundonald.

Now it's your turn!

That's just scraping the surface. Why not build out these sparse details into a timeline for Dundonald?

s1dundonald.com is the ideal place to build a record of our local history. If you know all about a particular aspect of Dundonald's history, or have some old photographs to share, then this is the place to do it.

Remember, history doesn't need to be in black and white! It's good to bring back memories of just a few years ago, too. Reminiscences of your school days will interest everyone who was there.

Let's build a Dundonald history of which we can be proud!

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
